July Reward & Recognition Award – Korey Nagel

Samples were required from within the tunnel and due to the sticky nature of the clay, they couldn’t be removed with manual force by hand.

Thinking outside the box, Korey made up a jig with a bolt through the sample tube and a nut on the thread rod that could be attached to the drill, the drill then forced the nut away from the wall and pulled the required sample out of the wall.

Korey’s ingenuity saved time in sample taking and was a safer option than manual sampling. Value: Continuous Improvement. Great job!

August Reward & Recognition Award – Gustavo Flores

Gustavo has been going above and beyond in multiple areas, with four nominations for August.

He showed Leadership and Engagement of people in steps he took to welcome a new member to the team.

Gustavo’s activities in relation to permits, testing and safety concerns has ensured a safe workplace, aligning with our Values of Risk & Opportunity Management and Continuous Improvement.

He stepped up to assist with Geotech samples, ensuring samples were fit for testing, identifying potential issues and speaking up to bring this to the attention of the team. Value: Right First Time.

It was identified that the jackhammer to be used in the hand-dig for the tunnel had a working time limitation of approx. 30 minutes per person without controls within an 8-hour period, owing to concerns related to Hand Arm Vibration (HAV). Gustavo successfully located and finalised the acquisition of the identical jack hammer featuring vibration reduction (FL022 SVR). The decrease in Hand-Arm Vibration (HAV) will enable each individual to operate the jack hammer for two hours without controls within an eight-hour workday. By implementing crew rotations and managing usage time, this will enhance both safety and productivity. Values: Risk & Opportunity Management and Continuous Improvement.

Keep up the great work Korey and Gustavo and enjoy your $150 Gift Cards!

The other July and August Nominees

Justin White

In line with our value of right tool for the task, Justin organised for a company to install two communication antennas at each end of the tunnel, ensuring the signal for communications would pass through the tunnel, eliminating the need for spotters to be stationed every 100m.

Whilst the stripping of the tunnel was taking place, Justin also identified the need and obtained an electric tow vehicle, appropriate for use within the tunnel.

Anurit Patwardhan

With major disruptions to residents on Erica Street (extra package on Essex Street project) Anurit showed great Relationship Management, ensuring clear and effective stakeholder communications.

Tania Conrad

Tania has stepped up to provide support and coordination with on/off hire vehicles across multiple projects, reducing the workload on the broader projects controls team.

Phi-Hung Nguyen

Phi spearheaded the development of the 62HA project report and its CCF Awards nomination with a strong emphasis on customer focus and relationship management. By engaging closely with stakeholders and understanding their perspectives, Phi ensured the report highlighted the project’s value and impact in a way that resonated with the industry.

The nomination process was approached with the same dedication, presenting the project’s achievements in a manner that aligned with the CCF Awards’ criteria and showcased its significance to the community. Phi not only showcased the project’s success but also strengthened key relationships, reinforcing the commitment to delivering exceptional results and fostering lasting partnerships.
